Class of 1927
- Noah Virgil Robert Morris
Noah Virgil Robert Morris (1927) was our father who passed away in 1989 at the age of 80. He married Christine Spears of Caldwell in 1935.
He had a 50 year career in banking, rising to become Chairman of the Prairie State Bank in Augusta.
His brothers, Gordon (1928) and Percy (1931) and sister, Fauna (1935) were also graduates of Towanda High School.
Our grandfather, William Robert Morris, was custodian of the school in the late 1940's when we remember helping him stoke the coal and wood burning furnace which warmed the school.Maynard Morris may be contacted by clicking here,

Class of 1953
- Stanley Buffington
Did not graduate,but attended school from sixth to tenth grades before moving to Braman,Okla. I remember fondly my classmates of the class of 1953!
Virgie Hull was my first girl friend. I plan to return for a visit one day. I hope some old classmates read this.
Class of 1958
- Dick Liggett
I served two years in the U.S. Army (1961-1963) in Special Troops in Berlin, Germany. I was sent there when the Berlin Wall went up.
I have been involved in ranching near Rosalia since 1963 - currently have a cow/calf operation and take in some contract cattle.
I raised four boys and have been involved in coaching and playing sports in the Butler County area, and am currently active in the Butler County Booster Club.
I try to keep a list of the Towanda Alumnus addresses and phone numbers from 1955 to 1962.

- Bill Williams
After graduating from THS in 1958, I attended Wichita State University,graduating in 1962. I worked as a commercial artist until 1971, at which time I went back to Wichita State to get my degree in education. I started teaching at Circle High School and stayed there until I retired in 1997.
I married Connie Kelly (Class of 1962) in 1964. We have three children and 10 grandchildren. Our family is active in Gospel Music, and since I retired from teaching, I have been doing sculpting and Bronze casting.

- Troy K. Riner
After graduating from Towanda High School in 1961, I went to work for Beech Aircraft and did some military obligations for Uncle Sam. I returned to Beech and have been working there for the last 38+ years. It is now called Raytheon.
I married Nancy Swisher, from El Dorado, in 1964 and we have two children. Our oldest is a daughter, Traci, who now lives in Nashville,Tennessee, and our youngest, Troy K. Riner II, a son, who now lives in Sasche, Texas. We have one grandson, Seth, who lives with his dad in Texas.We purchased the Rusty Bucket Restaurant in Towanda in 1989,and have been the owner/managers since that time. Nancy and I do a lot of volunteer stuff for the city and for the Pride Organization of Towanda, Kansas. We also try to stay active as far as the Civic Duties of the City. Class of 1962
- Carole (Cogan)Howell
After graduation, I attended Butler County JUCO and have now completed two years. In 1965,I married Lee Shirley and had one daughter, Lori Anne. Lee and I divorced in 1984, and in 1990, I married my present husband Fred Howell. Together we have four children and five grandchildren, and we live on ten acres outside Towanda. I have worked in Wichita at K.G.& E. for the past 26+ years.
- Mike Shaner
After graduating from THS in 1962, I attended BUCO JUCO and graduated in June, 1964. In November of 1964, I married Charlene Bonnel of El Dorado. We moved to Garland Texas in 1974. We have two sons, Kevin (a home health care nurse) and Eric (Intelligence Specialist in the Navy). We have one grandson age 14 and one grandaughter age 12. I am disabled and no longer working. I spent most of my working years in the mortgage business and also as a home insurance evaluator.
- Larry Tabor
After graduation in 1962, I married Sally Harbes, Class of 1961, and went to work for Beech Aircraft. I continued to work there for 23+ years. We had three children and now have six grandchildren. After Sally and I were divorced, I remarried and moved to Strafford, Missouri. I now drive a schoolbus for Springfield School District (R-12 School District).
- Connie (Kelly) Williams
I went directly to Cosmetology School after high school and graduated in 1963. I married Bill Williams (Class of 1958) in 1964. Having a beauty shop of my own allowed me to be a stay-at-home mom to our three children. My call to the music ministry turned into a family thing early on and has been a big part of our lives for the past thirty years. Bill and I have 10 grandchildren, I work part-time as a medical secretary and we still live about a 100 feet from the old high school.
