Sylvan Grove is a town of approximately 300 people located
on the banks of the Saline River in western
Lincoln county,
half-way between Salina & Hays. The area is known for
wildlife and recreational activities, with pheasant hunting
in the fall and water sports at Lake Wilson in the summer
topping the list.
This is the heart of post-rock country. The nearby Vonada Stone Company still produces stone fencposts. A stone double-arch bridge is located nine miles north of Sylvan on Highway K-181. It was a meeting place for three different ethnic groups in the settling days of the area. You can get to Sylvan Grove by taking exit 209 from I-70 and heading north about 12 miles, or by getting to the crossroads of K18 and K181 and heading south a mile. Flyers will find a 24 hour airport just 10 miles away in Lucas, Kansas. |
