"The first settlers arrived in the western part of Lincoln County about 1867. The first large herd of cattle ever driven into the county came to Sylvan Grove in 1870. With the completion of the railroad in 1887, businesses and homes started being built where Sylvan is today. A small stone store still stands southwest of town where Sylvan Grove began."
