Do I Need a Building Permit?
Yes, a Building Permit is required for new construction, improvements or demolition to your existing structure within the city limits of the City of Strong City.
Applying for a Building Permit
You or your contractor must submit a complete building permit to the Planning Commission for approval before any work begins. The Planning Commission meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. This can help avoid costly errors in setbacks, locating utilities, or violating zoning regulations. Failure to obtain a Building Permit prior to construction is a violation of Ordinance No. 1393 and is punishable by fines of up to two hundred and fifty dollars ($250).
Information You Will Need to Include on the Building Permit
You should provide all information that will help the Planning Commission evaluate the construction project, and help you comply with city regulations, including but not limited to, location of construction, type of construction, estimated cost of construction, plot plan of construction plans showing correct size of lot, all streets and alleys, existing structures and proposed structures.
Fees for Building Permits
You will be charged for the Building Permit based on the estimated construction cost. $10.00 for the first $1,000 to $10,000 of cost, an additional $1.00 for each thousand dollars over $10,000 up to $50,000 for a maximum permit fee of $50.00.
Applying for a Building Permit
You may obtain a building permit application from the City Clerk's Office. Call 620-273-6345 for additional information.
