In Mark 14:41, in the Garden of Gethsemane, the night before Jesus died, He said to His apostles “STILL SLEEPING? THE HOUR HAS COME.” Please keep in mind: The hour is NOW! Babies are being aborted every day. NOW is the time to pray for an end to abortion. NOW is the time to make a commitment to make a true sacrifice and spend one hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on December 8, The National Night of Prayer For Life. A sign-up sheet is in the vestibule. Please sign for which hour you plan to commit to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. THANK YOU!

In thanksgiving for our 4 seminarians; Luke Thielen, Brian Lager, Ryan Allen, and Shawn Kuhlman, the Altar Society is encouraging “adoption” of one. Today, papers will be passed out for you as an individual and/or as a family to take to pray for the name you receive. The birthday is listed with the address if you also want to do birthday and holiday cards. Care packages are an option and could include nuts, jerky, candy, gum, stationary, stamps; use your imagination! Thank you.

Please note that the Mass schedule is changed for December 17th and 18th. Selden will have Mass at 8:00 am on Sunday, December 18th.

Altar Society Dues are now due and payable to Eleanor Rogers or Helen Carman.

I will be printing the bulletin on Tuesday this week. Please have announcements to me by Tuesday noon. Thanks, Marla

Due to the renewal of our Liturgy, we have had to purchase new Missals for Mass. These are the books the priest uses during Mass. They are large and expensive. If you wish to purchase them as a memorial for a loved one, we would be appreciative. The price is $180.00 for the Mass copy and $80.00 for the Chapel edition. See Fr. Mark if you wish to donate. You may see copies in the sacristy.

“A History of the Diocese of Salina”, the book celebrating our diocese’ 125 years, is available from Father Mark at the cost of $35.00. A sample copy is in the back of church. Would be a great Christmas gift!!!

On December 8, this coming Thursday evening, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, at 9:00 pm, Oberlin Sacred Heart Church will begin a prayer vigil to intercede to Our Lady of Guadalupe for an end to abortion. All 3 parishes including Leoville, Selden, and Oberlin are invited and urged to attend. Come and go as you like; spend as much time as you can. At the beginning of each hour we will pray together, followed by silent prayer. THE HOURS THAT ALL TIME ZONES ACROSS THE NATION ARE UNITED IN PRAYER IS FROM 11:00 PM TO 1:00 AM OUR TIME. California will be beginning their prayer vigil while New York will be ending theirs. Beautiful things happen when people spend time in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Our society is hurting. May our parishes help turn things around, especially to help end abortion, the greatest threat. Mother Teresa said “A nation that kills its own, brings destruction upon itself”. Please do your part. In addition, after the first of the year, beginning in January, on the first Tuesday of each month, Oberlin Sacred Heart will be having adoration beginning with Mass at 9:00 am followed by adoration until 12:00 Noon. We would like you to join us to honor the Sacred Heart and to pray for vocations to the priesthood, deaconate, religious life, conversion of America, etc.

In union with the parish RCIA program, Fr. Mark will be teaching classes on the Catholic Faith on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm at the Oberlin Church Basement. These classes are open to anyone.

The Stewards of Hope Committee is working to gather the email addresses of our young people who have graduated within the last five years. There will be a place in the back of the church to list your child’s email or you can send the emails to the SOH secretary at Thank you!

“This is the Lord’s doing and it is amazing in our eyes.” Being chosen to serve as a priest or in the consecrated life is an amazing work of the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother to help you recognize and be faithful to your vocation. Call Father Jarrett Konrade 785-827-8746 or e-mail at
