Raymond today is a small peaceful town in western Rice County, but in its early days it was a "wild and wooly" cowtown and also a center of railroad construction. The combination attracted businesses that "catered to every human vice" and created a lively history. The Post Office building gives a clue about the architecture of the old town.
The city is located on the slope of the ridge that forms the north side of the valley of the Arkansas River, and the townsite has many old trees.
