A Warm
Welcome to You!
You may be new to us,
but you are known and loved by God. So why not give
us a chance to get
to know you? You are invited to join our Fellowship and grow together
with us in the gracious love of God.
The mission of the Pretty Prairie
United Methodist Church is "to glorify God by sharing the love of God,
the
teaching of Jesus Christ and the power of the holy spirit within our
community." |
The Pretty Prairie UMC is a
mission oriented church. Local missions have included the local
Food Bank and Prairie Sunset Home. We have
collected money for Nothing But Nets, a mission that
helps buy nets in mosquito infested areas in Africa; One Field One
Round, a mission that helps the hungry here in Kansas;
Samaritans Purse, a mission that sends shoeboxes all over the
world at Christmas for children; Youthville;
Bridges for the Future, a mission that has made improvements to
our 2 church camps and our college ministries in Kansas. We are
participating in a Covenent Relationship Program with
Drs. Sharon and Lynn Fogleman at Red Bird Clinic in Beverly, KY. and we
are in partnership with the Dora North United Methodist
Church in Zimbawa, Africa.
The Pretty Prairie UMC is
also a very active church. Some of the many activities are: Yoga Class,
the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Stephen Ministry, the ladies prayer group,
Adopt-A-Hiway program, a Prayer Chain, the UMYF, Good News Club, Vacation

Stephen Ministry
The Pretty Prairie UMC has become a
Stephen Ministry Church. Stephen Ministry is distinctively Christian
care giving for people going through difficult times or who are in need of
support in their lives. A Stephen Minister comes alongside a person
whose life has been turned upside down by a crisis or tragedy and cares for
that person as he or she puts his or her life back together.
Stephen Ministers are lay caregivers who work closely with the pastor and
Stephen Leaders. They dedicate 50 hours of training and meet twice monthly
for continuing education. They make an initial two-year commitment to
training and service. |

Covenant Relationship Program
The Pretty Prairie UMC has been in a Covenant
Relationship Program with missionaries through the General Board of Global
Ministries. Dr. Lynn and Dr. Sharon Fogleman are missionaries serving
with the General Board of Global Ministries at the Red Bird Clinic in
Beverly, Kentucky.
Since October 1997, Dr. Lynn and Dr. Sharon have served at the Red Bird
Clinic a "job-sharing" physician team. Prior to coming to Kentucky,
they served as medical missionaries in Maua, Kenya, East Africa.
Dr. Sharon graduated from Cornell
College in Iowa and from the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
Dr. Lynn graduates from the University of Kansas for both undergraduate
studies and medical school. The Fogleman's have three children: Kurt,
Mark and Joella, all of whom have attended Red Bird School.
Red Bird Mission was founded in
1921 in the southeastern corner of Kentucky to provide education and
Christian evangelism ministries to residents of the area. The school offers
classes to students, grades K - 12, and is fully accredited. There is
a Red Bird Clinic which operates an out-patient ministry. The
community outreach ministry has grown to include a clothing and crafts
ministry, Senior Citizens Center, Red Bird Elderly Housing apartments and
work camp program.
