Norwich Days Project Prom Softball Tournament Rules
- Respect your
umpires.
- Full game will
be 7 innings. (Due to popularity of
this event and having only one diamond at this time, we reserve the right
to limit the first two rounds of games to 5 innings and 45 minutes. No elimination games will be
shortened. Determination will be
made when the brackets are drawn after the registration deadline. Changes to rules will be noted in
parenthesis below.)
- 60 (50 for
shortened games) minute time limit.
In order to stay on schedule and at the umpire’s discretion, the
one pitch rule may be initiated. The
batter will get one pitch (no extra foul ball
is rewarded).
- Next scheduled
game starts 5 minutes after the previous game. Starting times on the bracket are for
reference only and are not official.
We will start early if we can.
- Run Rules: 15 after 3, 10 after 5
- Hardship
substitution will be allowed with a player from an eliminated team, upon
approval of the opposing team.
- Line-ups due 6th
inning of previous game
- Batting lineup
will alternate boy/girl.
- Lineup may
substitute Girl in Boy’s position.
Boys cannot outnumber Girls in lineup.
- In the
field: number of Girls must be
equal to or greater than the number of Boys, no restrictions on number of
outfield/infield/etc for Girls/Boys.
- Boy drawing a
walk will be awarded 2nd base, next Girl in the batting lineup
will be awarded 1st base, if they desire.
- Coin toss will
determine home team.
- 2 home runs per
game per team.
- Batters start
with 1-1 count. (unless after the 55 minute time limit)
- Only one third
strike foul allowed per at bat.
Additional foul ball will result in an out.
- Home runs after
team has hit their 2 per game limit will be an out.
- No metal spikes.
- No crash
rule. Runners have to slide.
- Outfielders have
to remain behind the restraining line until the ball is hit.
- A strike mat
shall be placed directly behind the home plate. Any legally delivered
pitch with the proper arc requirement that makes contact with any part of
the strike mat will be called a strike. Any pitch which makes contact with
both the strike mat and home plate simultaneously shall also be called a
strike. The catcher must allow the pitch to hit the mat or the ground
before returning the ball to the pitcher. If the catcher catches the pitch
before it hits the mat or in any way obstructs the umpire's view, the
pitch shall be declared a ball. If the batter inhibits the ball from
striking the mat (an obvious inside pitch that strikes the batter in the
box is an obvious exception), the pitch shall be declared a strike. Any pitch, declared illegal by the umpire
(not in the arc limit of 5 to 12 feet), hit by the batter shall be a live
ball.
- HAVE FUN and
THANK YOU from Norwich Project Prom!
