Meade, the county seat of Meade [ME] county, is located near the center of the county at the intersection of US-54, US-160, and KS-23.

Both the city and county were named for General George C. Meade, the Union commander at Gettysburg.

Places to visit

The home of Eva Dalton Whipple was used as a hideout by the Dalton gang in 1887. The house and barn, connected by a tunnel, are now a museum.
The Meade State Lake is 13 miles southwest of Meade off KS-25. There is also a state fish hatchery there.
There's an old school building and a display of antique farming equipment on Pearlette Street. It's part of the Historical Museum.
Cottonwood trees shade a pretty park beside the creek on the east side of town. Overnight camping is permitted.
