Kanorado is about as far west as you can get and still be in Kansas, located at mile marker one on I-70 in Sherman, [SH], County. This part of Kansas has a stark beauty. The surrounding countryside is rolling and dramatic, often clear of trees making the sky loom and dominate as Kansas skies are known to do.
Kanorado is actually about a mile off I-70 which makes it too easy to pass by. Afficionados of Drover Rail Cars, though, won't want to miss the Rock Island car number 17776 that's parked outside the museum downtown.The town has dwindled in population but there is a spirit here of community.
Just up the street, the nicely refurbished Senior Citizen's Center acts as the community center with a good kitchen and a separate, comfortable recreation room. Many of the community events are held here and, when bike-across-Kansas comes through Kanorado, bikers can find a place to put their sleeping bags out of the weather in this shelter.
