Jetmore, Kansas

Jetmore is the county seat of Hodgeman [HG] County. The area is hilly enough that the stands for the high school field are built using the natural slope. Jetmore is hidden in a valley and suddenly appears from nowhere if you enter from the south.

        Buckner was the first name for Jetmore when it was founded in 1879. It was later changed to honor the lawyer who helped the town become the Hodgeman county seat.

  • The beautiful limestone National Bank building (1888) is at one corner of the courthouse square.
     
  • There's an impressive domed Methodist church (1917) also on the courthouse square.
     
  • The stonework on the Haun Museum building is well worth stopping to admire.
