Tail Feather Update
The longest tail feather as of 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 is measured at 25 7/8 and belongs to Rob Crane.

~ Contest Rules ~

  1. There is no entry fee for the contest!
     
  2. Contest runs the entire length of pheasant season.
     
  3. The entire bird must be brought in to one of the drop-off locations before the tail feather or tag is removed.
     
  4. The bird must be bagged in Stevens County, Kansas.
     
  5. Only ring necked pheasants are eligible for prizes.
     
  6. Ties or other questions will be settled by the Stevens County Economic Development Board.
Winners of the 2000 longest tail feather contest in Stevens County, Kansas.
The 2000 contest
Tim Guenther of Rolla was the winner of the 2000 Stevens County Economic Development Longest Pheasant Tail Feather contest and was awarded a $950 Beretta 390 shotgun.  Trustworthy Hardware owner Ginger Howard, who had the shotgun on display, presented the gun to Guenther.
 
Also, pictured are Economic Development chairman Jeff Crawford at left and director Neal Gillespie.  The winning tail feather measured 25 5/16", which was only 1/32" longer than one turned in by Bemon Chastine of Hugoton.
