Mission Statement
Highland PRIDE is an organization totally interested in this community. Our mission is to promote community cooperation, community progress, community development, and community self-esteem. PRIDE plans, promotes, and participates in many areas that will improve the quality of living for the entire populace so that those outside our area will recognize the benefits of such a community spirit.

Vision Statement
Highland 2005 and beyond, will be dedicated to community enrichment through involvement with our diverse population. We will focus on maintaining a rural quality of life by providing a clean and safe environment in a "friendly town" atmosphere. Our future plans include additional affordable housing, continued support of our progressive educational facilities, our local businesses and the creation of new business opportunities. "The Welcome Mat is always out."

Highland PRIDE impacts not only our community, but also all of Doniphan County. Help Your Neighbor West Food Pantry serves families in White Cloud, Highland, Fanning, Troy, Wathena, Elwood, Severance, Leona, Denton, and Bendena. The Crisis Hot Line came in existence to serve Doniphan County, however, calls are received from all of Northeast Kansas, Northwest Missouri, and even other states. Meals on Wheels is served by volunteers that PRIDE solicits. PRIDE also makes the schedule for the volunteers to deliver hot food throughout all of Doniphan County, and sees that the volunteers are available.

Our July 4th celebration includes a parade, entertainment, and fireworks that are enjoyed by all of Highland residents and neighboring communities. Since Highland is the only area town celebrating Memorial Day, this event is another activity that is shared with surrounding towns. The Memorial Day program has an impressive presentation, and many former residents return to Highland to help us celebrate.

At the Community Thanksgiving Service the food pantry volunteers are honored with Certificates of Appreciation. For their support, area churches and the City of Highland are also presented Certificates of Appreciation at this service. An Appreciation Dinner is held for our firemen and ambulance crew and each volunteer is awarded a Certificate of Appreciation. The Highland ambulance and fire department serves Leona, Severance, Denton, White Cloud and Fanning, so any member volunteering from these communities is also honored. The EMT Foundation Scholarship Training Fund helps assure us that we have trained EMT personnel. Last year we had only five people on the ambulance crew and this year we have twenty-four volunteers.

The 2002 Prairie Trails Festival spent their first day with Doniphan County school children that had been invited to participate and interact with exhibitors. The students made and received cornhusk dolls, and arrowheads that had been made by the flint napper. The rest of the festival was planned entertainment for all ages.

Some of our projects such as the Christmas Lighting Contest (that includes both town and country residents), Welcome Packets, children's Christmas poster contest, planting flowers and seeing the fountain in Degginger Park is maintained, Make a Difference Day, new playground equipment, Generations Learning Together, parades, and appreciation dinners involves and impacts the entire community. These projects and activities help us interact with each other bringing the Highland community closer together.

Our organization is proud to have a positive impact on so many people. We find serving others fills us with the sense of what our program is all about: "PRIDE."
