The rich local heritage is showcased at the Tri-County Historical Society Museum in Herington's Fairgrounds Park. Nearby is the Railroad Museum, located in a historic baggage car.

• Fairgrounds Park, at the community's south end, has a miniature train for children to ride on summer evenings, near a fully-equipped park.
• On the opposite end of town, Herington's Father Padilla Memorial Park features a monument to Juan Padilla, who was killed in 1542. The shaded park has picnic facilities, playground facilities and gazebo. Enjoy the park's WPA-built swimming pool.

• Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy fishing, boating, camping and excellent picnic facilities at Lake Herington and the Herington Reservoir, located just 2.4 miles west of the corner of Broadway and Main.
