HISTORY OF HARDTNER SCHOOL

The first schoolhouse in Hardtner was a one room wooden building. It was moved in from the country. It was located on the corner across the street northwest from the present building. Only grade school was taught until after 1912. B. 0. Young and Olive Bartz-Ives took some subjects in the high school range.

In 1922, a 2 story brick building was built. Olive Harvey was the first high school graduate. And in 1952 the old building was replaced by the new present building. In 1973 Hardtner unified with Kiowa and at the present time the South Barber Middle School is located here.

In 2003, the South Barber Middle School was closed and students now share the Grade School Building.

Students said good-bye to the Hardtner School Building May 22, 2003!
