Gaylord is located in south central
Smith,
[SM], county in the center of the beautiful Solomon
Valley. It is on Highway 9 and is 3 miles west of
Highway 281 in North Central Kansas. Glen Elder
dam is to the east and Kirwin dam to the west making
Gaylord a central location for hunting, fishing and boating.
Wildlife is abundant in our area and pheasant season
brings many hunters from great distances. There's also
plenty of deer, quail and turkey.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the area's economy with irrigated corn, milo and soybeans as well as wheat the prevalent crops. To further enhance life in Gaylord there is a 9 hole golf course nearby. The Smith County courthouse is only 12 miles away in Smith Center as is a bowling alley, theater for other entertainment . A Family Practice Medical Clinic, fully staffed hospital and ambulance service are available in Smith Center. Kids in Gaylord go to schools at USD 237 in Smith Center.
