Milburn Stone, the actor who played the beloved "Doc Adams" on television's long-running western classic Gunsmoke, was born in Burrton, Kansas on July 5, 1904. He left home as a teenager to find work with touring repertory troupes.

While performing in Delphos, Milburn met and fell in love with local a local girl, Nellie Morrison. They were married in the Delphos Presbyterian Church. Nellie died at a young age, before he found fame as Doc in the long running Gunsmoke series. Stone won an Emmy in 1968 for his portrayal of the beloved Dr. Galen Adams, a role he kept from 1955 to 1975.
