Damar,

Damar is on highway K-18 and is six miles off of US-24.
Damar was settled in the 1880s by French-Canadians. Even today, traces of that culture survive. In 2007, residents and alumni of Damar completed a Main Street Restoration Project, beautifying and restoring the downtown buildings in an Old World French style.

Damar, located in Rooks, [RO], county, is best known for the beautiful St. Joseph church. The limestone stucture was built almost entirely by parishoners in 1912. It was recently named to the National Register of Historic Places and became a tourist attraction. It recently underwent $370,000 worth of restoration work. The town and the church are on top of a hill that offers a view over many miles of Kansas countryside. |
