Damar, located in Rooks, [RO], county, is best known for the beautiful St. Joseph church. The limestone stucture was built almost entirely by parishoners in 1912. It was recently named to the National Register of Historic Places and became a tourist attraction. It recently underwent $370,000 worth of restoration work. The town and the church are on top of a hill that offers a view over many miles of Kansas countryside.

Damar is a progressive community where the residents continue to be involved in numerous improvement projects. In 2009 a Renovation of the City Park was completed. A new Community Center was completed in 2010. Residents and Business Owners have also been busy restoring the interior of the buildings on Main Street and opening Businesses in them.

The area offers great outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping. Nearby Lake Webster is just nine miles away. Many visitors to the area have admired at the cleanliness of the town. The Kansas Explorer's Club held a BYOLC (Bring Your Own Lawn Chair) event to learn more about Damar on August 30th of 2009, and they had nothing but praise for the major accomplishments of this small community.

Damar also boasts an excellent school system and major shopping is just minutes away. With all of these features, Damar is truly a place where both young families and retirees alike would enjoy to live.
