Welcome to Clifton and Vining, Kansas

Clifton and Vining are located in North Central Kansas. Vining borders the western edge of Clifton. What were once two different towns, today are considered one community, with the exception that both towns still have their own city councils. They share the distinction of being located in two counties, the county line being Parallel Street, the main street of both cities. North of Parallel is Washington County, and south of Parallel is Clay County. Parallel Street is also Kansas Highway 9 most of the way through Clifton.

Should you like to learn more about the history of Clifton and Vining and see items from the past, visit the Clifton Community Historical Society Museum located one block north of Parallel on Clifton Street. The museum is housed in the Missouri-Pacific Depot, which was built in 1877. The museum opened in 1980 and holds collections of early day memorabilia, offering a taste of life in Clifton in yesteryear.

LCL Buffalo Ranch and Museum

The Lester C. Lawrence Ranch is located north and west of Clifton on Kansas Hwy 9.  Mr. Lawrence, who passed away in February of 2005, was one of first ranchers in the state to own a buffalo herd.  Call 785-455-3707 to arrange a visit with the buffalo, tour the ranch and view the antique farm equipment.
