Cimarron, the county seat of Gray [GY] county, is on the north bank of the (often waterless) Arkansas river. From the big ridge on the north side you can see the whole town. It's a prosperous place with a new subdivision built around a lake. Downtown, Clark's Pharmacy still has a soda fountain and the old Cimarron Hotel serves meals (weekends only). US50 follows the original Santa Fe trail through Cimarron. Cimarron Crossing Park, beside the river on the south side of town, has information about the Santa Fe Trail through this area.
