Government 		   Cedar Vale is located on scenic highway US166 in far western Chautauqua, [CQ], county. The highway no longer runs through the heart of town, but it's worth a slight detour to see the sights. Much of the town is on hills overlooking the nearby Caney River. Downtown, there are several fine old stone buildings; the museum is especially nice.
  • A nice mural on the side of a downtown building offers scenes from Cedar Vale's past.
  • The old city jail can still be seen on a downtown side street.
  • The gravel road from Cedar Vale up to Grenola follows the valley of the Caney River through pretty country.
  • The "Wee Kirk" chapel is a few miles south; small signs point the way, but you might still want to stop and get directions.
