Alcove Spring Historic Trust

The Alcove Spring Historic Trust has been formed to protect the historic crossing of the Big Blue River. The group owns 300 acres surrounding the Spring and crossing. In the short run, the group is hoping to recruit volunteers to serve as site guides, improve visitor parking and site trails and identify funding sources for site development. In the long run, the group hopes to establish an interpretive center in Blue Rapids, KS. The Donner-Reed party camped in the Alcove Spring area in 1846 and it was here that James F. Reed's mother-in-law, Sarah Keyes, died.
