The Blue Rapids Historical Museum was established in 2007 to honor and remember the people, businesses and history of the only Blue Rapids in America.
While the Museum is building up their permanent collection of items, they are borrowing items to make interesting exhibits. The current exhibit is Farming and will run until September 30, 2009. Included are items used by farm wives like milk stools, egg and chicken equipment, sad irons and hoes. A section displays the variety of tined farm tools, fencing equipment, and harvesting equipment. A wall display honors Century farms with old photos and land grants and maps. Two special pieces are an antique surveyors wheel which measures a rod and the prototype for a special plow designed for NE Kansas sod in the 1870s and manufactured in Blue Rapids.
Future exhibits will be Nativity Scenes and antique Christmas decorations from October1 to December 31. The New Year will start with a display of Babies until March 31st. Exhibits following that might include ghost towns, rural schools, fossils or local war heroes.
The museum is open Saturday 9:00-12:00 at #36 Public Square, on the Round Town Square in Blue Rapids. We are happy to open up for family reunions, group meetings and whenever you are passing through.
