Bern, along with Axtell and Summerfield are served by USD 488. The Bern school has a preschool-6 building and a second building serving the junior and senior high school. The Bern school is proud of its experienced staff and excellent teacher to student ratio. Almost all of our students graduate and over 90% go on to institutions of higher learning.
Bern has had many successes in extra curricular activities. Recent successes include a boys state 1A track championship in 1998 and a girls state championship in 1997. Both the boys and girls basketball teams have competed at the state tournament in the last two years also.
Other activities include band, choir, scholars bowl, and drama. Clubs include the FCCLA, FFA, Letter Club, and Pep Club.
The Bern community is very active in its support of the school. Many parents volunteer time to help games and concessions and with the art program and class "moms". The Bern Booster club was formed to help coordinate these activities and to raise funds for needed items. Currently, money is being raised to purchase new playground equipment.
