Bern is located in extreme northern
Nemaha,
[NM], County, almost in Nebraska. The rich farmlands on the rolling hills
around Bern are a major factor in the strong local economy. Well over one
hundred workers commute into Bern each day. Bern is a small but complete
town with a rich heritage from its early settlement by Swiss immigrants,
and full of pride and hope for the future.
In earlier times, Bern was served by the Rock Island railroad. Now, like many Kansas communities, Bern relies on highways to connect it to the rest of the world. Bern had more than its fifteen minutes of fame when the Maytag company used the town as a test site for a new line of water and energy efficient washing machines. The Maytag repairman of TV fame didn't really get a chance to be lonely at the Bern Cafe. |
