BENNINGTON CEMETERY

BENNINGTON, KANSAS

The Bennington Cemetery was formed in 1881. The first lots were sold in 1882, however there are old stones dated in 1870 as the Presbyterian Church started a small cemetery on this site. Sometime in the 1870's the church exchanged their owenership of the cemetery for building lots where the church now stands.

There are 6.5 acres in the old part and 5 more in a recently purchased addition.

There are about 2000 graves of which over 240 are veterans

The flag on the right of the above picture is a 48 star flag that was presented to the family of Jack Yost when he was killed in Germany. It was still in the box that was shipped here in 1944

Another picture of interest shows the North gate and drive lined with flags that were flying on Memorial Day. These flags are flown on several days during the year and whenever there is a funeral for a veteran.
