Welcome to Anthony

Anthony is the county seat of Harper [HP] county. It is surrounded by the rich red soil and wheatfields that make the area prosper.

Anthony was named for George T. Anthony (1824-1896), Governor of Kansas at the time the county seat of Harper County was selected. The first courthouse was built in 1879 for use by the city. By 1905 the building had deteriorated badly and the present building was authorized in 1907. The cornerstone of the current courthouse, registered in the NRHP, was laid in January 1908.
