The Kansas Senate currently has 27 Republicans (occupying the seats on the left side of
the chamber photo) and 13 Democrats. Each of the 40 State Senators represents approximately 60,000 people
in his/her respective district and is elected to a 4 year term.

The Chamber is located in the East Wing of the capitol building, the first section of the Statehouse to be constructed.
The Chamber is open to visitors when the Legislature is not is session from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday
through Friday. Guided tours of the capitol are available. Find out more information about

The Legislative Session always begins on the second Monday in January of each year and lasts for 90
