Poetry of Kansas

An Altar in My Heart

I've built an altar in my heart
Where prayers always ascend.
(I must be careful of the gift
If fires from God descend.)
 
The flames of holy love burn blue
To purify each part.
I lay my life an offering
Upon the altar in my heart.
