Three Histories Of The Prairie

      The fields
      compose
      the plains

conspicuous for their
       invisible mountains
quiet in the
shape of the wind.

A stone once surrounded
by the legs of bison
survives

      disguised as a
      stone on a flat plain.

The fields rise
curving
an earth yellow horizon
unreckonable
      The earth forever falling
      the sky
forever rising

      all animals
arrange themselves
within the fields of space.
