May Each Glasco Boy Returnits beams the meadow's crest, With its various rays of colored light, Before it sinks to rest, And the moon comes up in glory With its softer rays of light, Telling us the day is done, soon comes the hush of night. Adown the lane a maiden and manly youth appear. Says he, "This war is calling me but banish all your fear For I'll return, dear heart of mine, When this great war is past; I'll come to claim your heart and hand, We'll claim life's joys at last. A fond adieu I bid you for my regi- ment must start Tomorrow morn at sunrise so good by, dear faithful heart, For my country now I leave you, am thankful that I can; Our country needs each willing heart, each able-bodied man." O heavenly Father, well we know That many a loving heart, In saddest grief must realize they must forever part. Some may not see their native land, And some sad hearts must yearn, But heavenly Father, grant this prayer___ "May each Glasco boy return." __Nettie Squire Sutton. |
