Poetry of Kansas

To A Friend

Friend Will, I am sending
At this, the year's ending,
A calendar showing the days that I'll think
Of you, my good fellow.
For you, my thoughts mellow
And sweeten my hours. To your health now I
    drink.

Some friends are funny,
Some friends just like money
That's with me today and then gone on the mor-
    row.
Some friends try to work me,
Some others to shirk me,
But you stay with me in both sunshine and sor-
    row.
