Poetry of Kansas

The Homemaker's Psalm

My home is my haven, verily it shall not want.
It maketh me to labor with joy,
It filleth my cup to overflowing.
In the hour of anguish it comforteth me.
Love and understanding are the pillars of its foundation,
And the prattle of happy children fill its halls
        with sweet music.
Unto me is here given kingdoms of happiness and
        contentment,
And the fairest queen of all, the mother of sweet babies.
All this would I not trade for the, diamonds of Kimberley,
Nor can they be appreciated without the wisdom
        of understanding.
Surely goodness and mercy will ever follow the homemaker
And he will be the bulwark of civilization forever.
