Work of Life.Mayst thou like the setting sun, In thy radiance reflect a glow__ Brilliant on this earth below. Mayst thy last transporting breath Picture victory over death, While the rays of light expand Full of blessings on each hand. Work of life, oh mayst thou be Lasting as eternity: Full of hope and void of fears As the everlasting years. Mayst thy pleasures come and go, Like the sunshine on the snow, Brilliant as the light above, Full of faith and hope and love. Work of life, oh let me rest, Viewing from kind Nature's breast All that's true and good and bright In its most effulgent light. Let my eyes once more behold All the joys of life unfold: Like the setting of the sun__ Gilds the race that he has run. __James S. Jennings. |
