The June Bug In The Butter

There's a June Bug in the butter
In dim light we saw him slide.
The hot July Kansas evening
With the kerosene lamp beside,
Dad picked up the butter dish
And quickly slipped outside.
Relieved I was when he returned
For he was grinning wide.
No June Bug and no butter,
He was completely satisfied.
