________
WHY WAIT ?
_____
Why wait to show your love,
Until the form lies cold ?
Why leave unsaid those words
Of dearer weight than gold ?
Oh! could you read the heart,
And see love's hunger there,
You would not wait to speak
And show your tender care,
When death's chill brink is passed,
We'll heed not love expressed
By lilies cypress-twined
Across the pulseless breast.
PRAIRIE ASTERS.
_______
Starry blooms, your forms I greet,
Down where brook and prairie meet;
Purple, lilac, paler hues,
Gleaming thro' the Autumn dews.
Quails and doves come here to drink,
Where you love to nod and blink.
