KANSAS, ON SOME FUTURE DAY.

I SIT upon a summer cloud. My car
Unseen I float, and view the lands afar,
To choose, from many, one to guide my stanzas.
I see a free-born State, still free indeed,:
By thrift and temperance gaining the lead;
Stand forth amid thy golden sheaves, fair Kansas.
__ E. P. Chittenden.

"AD ASTRA PER ASPERA."
BEAUTIFUL Kansas, whose glory and fame
Thy children in song and story proclaim;
Though born in battle and baptized in blood,
Thou art the home of the noble and good;
And thy sons and daughters shall grandly rise
Through difficulties to the starry skies.
__R. L. Cochran.
