Poetry of Kansas

Mother

She journeyed into the valley of the shadows;
She went down to the crossing where the sunset is eternal.
With love as her guide,
She made the lonely journey there and back again
For us.
Somewhere along that perilous path
She must have been near the stars,
And close,___tenderly close to that other Mother:
For when her thoughts are on her children,
We can see the star dust in her eyes;
And when we go to her with our grief,
We can feel the sweetness of Mary in her heart.
