Smiling down the country lanes,

Nodding through the hedge,

Peeping at a mirrored face

Above the water's edge;
 

Catching fire from the setting sun

The gold of an autumn dawn,

File on file in brave array,

The sunflowers march along.
 

East to west and north to south

Move the caravans of today;

The lanes of travel are lengthening

And the sunflower marks the way.
