Field Trip: Street Car Photoa river and the salt mines. Trade busied the doors along Main, and tracks carried our forebears up and down the Street. We can still feel that day, its rumble, in the frozen glow of our museum photos where stout men with stiff straw hats wave for all their worth. They hold to the car's handles and lean out like banners for the victory of forward motion. We congregate to reexamine these relics of their happiness. "That was our town," we say. We believe it all over again. __Steven Hind
