My New Year Wish for You
January 1, 1906
A fine old word in human speech,
A wealth of good expressing,
Speaks well my New Year wish for you
And that fine word is--Blessing.
Whate'r the old year brought of pain,
Of sorrow or of sadness,
May this year more than pay you back
In wholesome joy and gladness.
And if the past year brought you peace,
And days untouched by trouble,.
May this year freely give you joy,
In measure, fully double.
And may you, while in patience true
And firm, your soul possessing,
Give faith and hope and love full away.
The sum of human blessing.
