Georgie and the Hatchet

Georgie, Georgie, have a care
        With your little hatchet;
If you cut that cherry tree
        Then indeed you'll "catch it."

Georgie, I am deeply grieved,
        For you've used your hatchet,
And have cut the cherry tree
        So that none can patch it.

But Georgie, you have one fine trait
        I wish we all might match it:
You really cannot tell a lie
        About yourself or hatchet.

And Georgie, down the years'twill go,
        The story of the hatchet,
And how you love the truth so well
        You will not even stretch it.
