The TollAnd all must play On the strings that vibrate Night and day, By the winds that blow Across land and sea That makes a tuneful life ' Neath the musical tree. When we gaze beyond The sunset glow And view the clouds That come and go And the stars that sparkle In darkest night Bring peace and joy To age and youth. As you plod along Be of good cheer For there are others behind With a load of care If your heart is right You need not fear When the load is weighed Gross or tare. The road we travel Is rough at best Sometimes no place To sleep or rest The raich and poor The blind and lame Must pay the toll At the end of the lane. The Plains Poems in Kansas
