| BEYOND the radiance of the Cross we see,
There lies the night, the dreaded night of sin, Where yet the light of hope ne'er entered in; And from that light more dreadful seems to be The darkened pall which veils humanity. Yet from the darkness ye of light have been Redeemed, that others to the light might win, And place within the view of Calvary The perishing from hunger, thirst and cold, Foot-sore and weary from the winding course The stubborn path of sin had led along; They of the night the story must be told Until its tender plea its way shall force Into the midnight of the darkest wrong. __James A.
