The Male

The male of the bison is a family
   man,
You've often seen the hollows on
   the plains
Where he gave battle to the coyote
   clan
Guarding the new-born young.

The male of the robin tends the
   hatching nest
The males of moose and fox, the
   hunter saith,
And of the rabbit, guinea, ape and
   rat
Are faithful unto death.

The male of mankind is a mighty
   lord
That rears his head above all
   beastly kind
And thunders his rare virtues unto
   heaven.

Yet, some we know
   Whom we believe,
(Considering the robin and the rat)
   Should have the grace
To thunder
   Just a little softly,
