Poetry of Kansas

Yonder flows the milky way,
Every drop in it a sun__
It is a brook in the garden of a
Who thinks for himself.
There's the northern star,
The gatepost of a fellow
Who knows his own mind.
Pleiades, Orion, Southern Cross,
Big and Little Bears,
Planets, suns and systems__
Things we have spent milleniums
        trying to count__
They look 'neighborly, but the miles
        between them are unthinkable
Independent experiments of a fellow
Who has succeeded
 In kicking loose
