The
Madison Historical Society was organized to record and preserve the
history of the town of Madison and surrounding areas, as well as the
history of the Santa Fe RR as it pertained to the town's history. We
have restored the old Santa Fe depot, which is used for meetings and
community events, and houses a museum with artifacts of both the
town of Madison and the Santa Fe RR. There is a section of track in
back of the depot, and we would like to have a suitable piece of Santa Fe equipment to display there. We
invite anyone with Madison area artifacts or Santa Fe RR memorabilia they would like
to have displayed in the museum, please contact Leslie Elliott at
620-437-2095, or you can email the club at: denalidude@gmail.com.
Donations are tax deductible.
The
Historical Society has provided for the placement of memorial bricks,
which are placed on the depot veranda. This is a perfect way to
remember a loved one, to honor a school class or other memorials. The
cost per brick is $30. If more than one brick is purchased, the cost is
$25 per brick. If possible, names should be limited to 12 - 13
characters per line with a maximum of three lines. The society is also
working on a map to help find the location of bricks that persons have
purchased. Brick orders can be sent to: Jan Isch, P.O. Box 306, Madison KS 66860.
We
have available for your viewing a copy of the booklet "HISTORY OF MADISON" by Lura Pettyjohn, written by
Christine Jardinier and dated November 1956. Click HERE,
