THE ARCHIVES OF KANSAS AUTHORS CLUB
The current Archivist for KAC is Don Pady of Topeka, Kansas. Don has a background in library science and accepted the job of archivist starting in 2006. Gail Martin was prior archivist.
The historical records of the Kansas Authors Club are officially housed in the Kansas Collection, Spencer Research Library, of the University of Kansas Libraries in Lawrence, Kansas. The collection includes about 450 books all authored by members of the club. Some of the books date back to the first decade of the 1900s, when the club was formed. Early members whose books are in the collection are Margaret Hill McCarter and William Allen White. Much other information can be found in the archives, including most of the Yearbooks published by the club over the past nearly 100 years, newsletters, conference announcements, information about writing awards, meeting notices etc.
A smaller but important collection of historical records of Kansas Authors Club is maintained by the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka. The collection includes Yearbooks dating from 1937 to the present, as well as newsletters, meeting notices, award announcements, correspondence etc. dating back to the very early 1900s.
The State Archivist of the Kansas Authors Club also maintains a collection of historical materials that are, in most cases, duplicates of some of the material contained in the official collection. These are readily available for inspection by the club members and other researchers at the State Archivist's home.
