Our speaker was Steven Hind, a retired professor of creative writing who taught at Hutchinson Community College. Read more about this well-known Kansas poet on the Map of Kansas Literarature.
Our Spring Meeting, held at Coronado-Quivira Museum, Lyons, on April 23, 2011, had fourteen writers attending. Several turned in the one-thousand-word memoirs, being collected for a book District 6 plans to publish in 2012.
Our speaker was Maria Drezinger, community columnist from the Hutchinson News. She spoke about her work in journalism and answered questions.
After the meeting, members took a tour of the museum, especially focusing on the Civil War exhibit and potential material for writing on the theme of the state convention in Coffeyvill in October: "Kansas" Freedom Frontier for 150 Years."
District 6 held a writing contest during February and March, 2011. Luanne French, D2, Great Bend, was contest chair.
