, WSU professor, specializes in archaeology of the Great Plains. He was awarded the 2011 KAC Ferguson History Book Award for Holy Ground, Healing Water: Cultural Landscapes at Waconda Lake, Kansas. His presentation is scheduled at 2:00 with a short business meeting to follow.

The Kansas Authors Club, established in 1904, welcomes creative, technical, academic and journalistic writers. Members share experiences and their work to help improve their writing.
Meetings are held:
2nd Saturday of each month except July, August & October

"Women In Writing" meets at varying locations in Wichita each fourth Monday of the month at 2:00 PM. This group meets to listen to, critique, encourage, and inspire women writers. For more information call Nancy Glenn, District 5, Wichita, 316-687-6212.

"Save Me a Dance!" A Musical Premiere by Lyricist-Composer Ken Gale and Playwright Joyce Markley, District 5, Wichita.
     A musical story of love from childhood through life. Alice, a fun and imaginative ten-year-old, is befriended in an old cemetery by the spirit of a young girl. Together the two best friends share the wonders, pains, loves, losses and triumphs of Alice's long life.

“Celebrate National Poetry Month”
Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg
, the state poet laureate from Kansas, is District 5's featured presenter, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Rockwell Library in Wichita. We are delighted that she will be joining us to "royally" celebrate National Poetry Month. There's a reserved seat with your name on it for this special program! D5's gathering is open to the public. Coffee and conversation will follow. Please don't hesitate to join us!

Ed Thompson is a Wichita native with a B.A. Journalism, M.Ed English Education. Ed had a 35-year teaching career, served as English Language Arts Dept. Chair for 15 years, and participated in NEA Project to Improve the Teaching of English

“Writing for Children”
w/ Katherine Scraper, author, retired teacher
Before retiring from teaching, Katherine Scraper began writing teacher resource materials and kids' books for educational publishers around the U.S. and now writes full-time for Benchmark Education Company in Pelham, New York, from her home office in Wichita. Katherine's books are listed on her portfolio web site.

A quick hour-long convention planning session took place, then a short business meeting, followed by Conrad Jestmore, District 5, Wichita, speaking on "The Collaborative Process," sharing his recent experiences of penning a highly acclaimed and broadly embraced musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. He also discussed how he collaborated with composer-lyricist Paul Jackson and director Kathryn Page Hauptman.
